The Pooping Flamingo Party

It all started why my 4 year old daughter eye spied a singing pooping flamingo on YouTube and that was it. She HAD to have this pooping pink creature and, “MAMA!!!! I want a pooping flamingo birthday party too!!!!”

She got her little pooping friend for Christmas and with her birthday still over 6 months away I smiled and and agreed to her party theme. Certainly she would change her mind by then… New Years came and went. We celebrated Valentine’s Day and she held fast to her pooping flamingo theme. March came and went. Easter…Memorial Day… the last day of virtual classes for her brothers and the excitement only grew… “My birthday is close right??? Summer time??? Pooping flamingo party!!!!” I headed to Amazon and started loading my cart. We had planned to head to the lake for Fourth of July so we planned to just celebrate there.

I taught myself how to make sugar cookies with royal icing from multiple YouTube videos a few years ago so free hand flamingos and poop were a piece of cake (or cookie). I ordered plates and tropical/flamingo decorations from Amazon and ordered a pink cake with cupcakes frosted in chocolate (poop) from the local grocery store bakery and viola! The craziest theme I have done yet. Izzy got her ‘Pooping Flamingo Party’.

Notice the “poop” on the cake and the trail on the table? My sister-in-law suggested Raisinets and they were a hit!

We already had the little chalkboards (they came from Oriental Trading years ago). I found a cute flamingo printable and created the flamingo gift bags using small, simple, pink, paper gift bags from Amazon. Bubble wands, sunglasses, little blow up beach balls completed the treat bags for my little ones and their cousins.

Total cost for decorations, treat bags, supermarket cake and cupcakes with lunch from the deli for our family (7 kids and 7 adults $146.

A simple trick I usually use for themed parties is to buy the small 8 piece setting of the chosen theme and then simply buy additional plates/napkins in a coordinating color. Typically I would have purchased a pack of pink plates (the leftovers would have been saved for Valentine’s Day) and green napkins (the remaining napkins would have been tucked away for St. Patrick’s Day.) I have a “Birthday Bin” where all leftover/unused decorations, backdrops, plates, napkins, and favors all go to be used later. When I buy solid colored plates and napkins, there is more likely a chance that they will be used for another party and that cuts down costs.

Turns out our Gotta Go Flamingo now has a pooping turtle friend. It’s the ‘Gotta Go Turdle’. Get it… TURDle.
