Where to Begin? My Favorite Movie Franchises (in chronological order)

I Love Harry Potter. I “watch” the whole series at least once a year and it’s usually around the holidays. I say “watch” in quotes because I typically stream movies and shows while I work and having seen my favorite franchises so many times, I don’t have to have my eyes glued to the TV screen the entire time. Background noise, entertainment, a little nostalgia… what could be better? When the the Incredible Beasts movies came out I had to re-watch and incorporate those… then the Secrets of Dumbledore was released and well… I had to watch the entire series but in what order? As soon as my husband hears the score he rolls his eyes and incredulously asks… “Again? Why???”

Larger franchises that have prequels, sequels, and reboots… do you watch them in the order they were released, or the order in which the story takes place?

From Harry Potter, Star Wars, the Marvel Franchise to Indiana Jones (super cool how they made Harrison Ford look young in the newest movie) I’ve been lucky enough to see them all as they released so re-watching in chronological order doesn’t ruin some of the surprising twists and turns and shocking reveals as it would watching them in chronological order for the first time so I’ll let you decide.

I am a 100% chronological watcher.

That being said, Watching Star Wars in chronological order is really entertaining for those who have already seen all the movies. Again, I can’t/won’t recommend it as the way to go on your first viewing! Many reveals and surprises are broken by watching the franchise in this order. You have been warned.

I will be creating a separate post for the Marvel Universe because it’s HUGE! Between incorporating some of the new TV series into the movie timeline there is a lot to unravel. Multiverse not withstanding…
